Many people say April showers bring May flowers, but the Burlington County Parks System says April and May bring new programs! With the weather getting warmer, the Parks System will be hosting many safe, fun and free outdoor events for adults and families over the next two months. BURLCO NATIVE ALICE PAUL SUBJECT OF WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH TOWN HALL

As Women’s History Month Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-3) held a town hall on Monday with Assemblywoman Carol Murphy and the Alice Paul Institute to educate the public about one of New Jersey’s most notable women who was a trailblazer for women’s rights.

GETTING THEIR SECOND SHOT: ONE AFRICAN-AMERICAN NJ FAMILY'S VACCINE EXPERIENCE

According to the Governor's office, almost 2.7 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered throughout New Jersey as of March 10. Of that number, about 900,000 people are fully vaccinated.  At the beginning of February, my family got our first shot of the COVID vaccine and now, we are officially among the number of fully vaccinated.

REP. KIM TOWN HALL HIGHLIGHTS SOUTH JERSEY CONTRIBUTIONS TO BLACK HISTORY

February is Black History Month in the United States, and while students are often taught about African Americans who have contributed to our country, they seldom hear about those who have contributed to their local community or the local sites that are embedded in Black history.  On Friday, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) held a telephone Town Hall event aimed at teaching students about the Black history that exists in their own backyard of South Jersey and its communities.

PET ADOPTIONS DURING THE PANDEMIC ADDING JOY TO FAMILIES

One of the positive outcomes of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic has been the increase in the number of pets adoptions. Pre-pandemic, at the beginning of March 2020, the pet adoption rate was at 58 percent.  Recently, the pet adoption rate is up to 85 percent.

While African Americans are considered a medically high-risk group because of underlying conditions and make up 25 percent of positive COVID-19 (coronavirus) patients and 39 percent of total COVID deaths, many are skeptical of the vaccine.

COUNTY BRANCH OF NAACP INDUCTS NEW OFFICERS

January 2021

Since 1966, the Southern Burlington County chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, or NAACP, has served as an organization that is known for advocating for the civil rights of all. On Sunday, the chapter continued its legacy of leadership in the civil rights movement by electing new officers and committee chairs who will serve for the next two years.

NJ HOWARD UNIVERSITY STUDENT TAKES IN THE HISTORIC PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION

The 2020 presidential election was a very long process that culminated into a less-than-usual transition of power between two Presidents. The Inauguration of President Joe Biden, Jr. on Wednesday, January 20 was not surprisingly also much different from previous years.
